My 600-lb Life former sportsman William was derailed by injury before reaching 600lbs Wed 13 March 2024 20:00 Celine Byford
Andrew Mccoy William is sharing his weight loss journey on My 600-lb Life, having gone from an athletic sportsman to weighing over 600lbs. A knee injury derailed his career but now he’s determined to fight back.
“It’s heartbreaking to look at it,” the My 600-lb Life star’s mother says as the trailer shows William eating two pizzas with chips laid on top. But he says enough is enough, and set himself a goal of losing 70lbs.
William joins My 600-lb Life
William joins My 600-lb Life hoping to turn his life around. Dr. Now sets the TLC star a goal of 70lbs to lose so he can be approved for weight loss surgery and get down to 500lbs.
His plummeting lifestyle all began when he got divorced. He was working as a correctional officer, which gave him a place to live while he was paid for armed and unarmed security.
While he was finishing his studies, William met a “fellow student who was overweight,” who he ended up getting married to and moving to Colorado with in three months. However, the two later got divorced.
TLC star’s story: Athlete to 600lbs
Realising security wasn’t what he wanted to do, William, who was always mobile and athletic, opted to look into video game programming. As a teen, he suffered a knee injury that derailed his sports career.
However, when he was looking for a new career path, the TLC star got divorced as he and his former wife of five years “weren’t in love anymore”. William then moved to Texas and stayed in hotel rooms.
He was working the night shift in customer service from home, but the company “got rid of him” as the overnight phone services stopped working. William then fell into depression and put weight on.

See where William is now
William stayed committed to his weight loss journey for four months. He was set a goal to lose 70lbs by Dr. Now, and claims he felt lighter and felt more active as a result of his strict diet.
He also got a new job working at a fast food restaurant which keeps him on his feet, but admitted he’s so tired after a shift that he has no energy left to stay active. “It gets me out in the world,” William said.
The star feels “excited” about the new venture as it “gets him interacting,” but does face challenges moving around at work because of the small kitchen area.
