Newcastle United are the surprising package this season after pulling off a great performance throughout the whole season but now will be dealing with a shock after their star player got involved in an unusual and offensive incident.

Joelington is clearly one of the most consistent performer on this season for the Magpies alongside Miguel Almiron and Kieran Trippier and the Brazilian is clearly a root to success for them.

After a move to Newcastle United from TSG Hoffenheim back in 2019, this is the best season for the Brazilian in terms of impact on the pitch since playing under the new manager Edi Howe. He scored 2 goals and further provides a lone assist in the Premier League.

But the Newcastle United attacker is under investigation from Northumbria police after he was arrested on January 12 with a charge of drink and drive case.

“Shortly before 1.20am today (Thursday), officers pulled over a vehicle in the Ponteland Road area of Newcastle and arrested the occupant,” a Northumbria Police spokesperson said.

The incident took place after Newcastle’s 2-0 victory over Leicester City in the quarter final of the EFL Cup where Joelington scored a goal, further provided an assists and was literally unstoppable sometimes. 

Assist for the opener and goal for the sealer from Joelington saw Newcastle Utd ease past Leicester City.

“Joelinton Cassio, 26, of Ponteland, has since been charged with driving whilst above the prescribed limit for alcohol.”- the policeman further added.

Newcastle United team management and authorities are very much aware of the situation but they prefer not to speak in front of the media as long as the issue is being investigated and remained unsolved.

Police source also confirmed, they will produce the star player to the court and a final verdict will be declared before further taking any actions against him.

“He is due to appear before magistrates in Newcastle on January 26.”- the statement concluded.

It will remain a concern for Edi Howe and his team, but he will be hopeful about a Joelington return to the pitch against the high flying Fulham team on January 15.
