NHL style power rankings: The Force is strong with Trevor Zegras, plus holiday colors, Grandpa’s jacket and more
Daniel Foster Between the NHL pulling out of the Olympics, the extended holiday break and the number of NHLers in COVID-19 protocol, fashion is nowhere near the top of most players’ priority lists right now.
But, despite it all, plenty of guys have put together some great outfits these past few days, and with holiday season in full swing, I think we could all use a break from the constant negativity and bad news. In the words of Hurricanes forward Jordan Martinook, maybe you should grab a cocktail, turn on some Nickelback and have yourself a great afternoon while you catch up on the latest in NHL style.

The limited number of players actually going to the rink obviously affects this batch of style rankings. But just like how it’s played out on the ice, all the absences gave some new guys an opportunity to step up and show what they’ve got.
(Note: Not all players are the first ones shown in the posts below. We’ll note when you need to scroll past the first photo.)
10. Adam Lowry
Previously: No. 5
Check out Adam Lowry in the fifth photo here:
And the third here:
He drops a bit in the rankings this week but hangs onto the last spot for his recent fits. A spin on the recent influx of purple, Lowry has some blue tones in the suit and a blue tie to accentuate it all.
9. Braden Holtby

Braden Holtby is on the top left here:

Holtby’s looks show the power of two things: a good fit, and a maroon/blue combination.
8. Brenden Dillon
Previously: Unranked
You might have already seen him above, but Brenden Dillon is in the first photo here:
I need to give the Jets props. They always have a super well-dressed team, despite living in basically the arctic tundra. Dillon is one of many making the cut this week, and his fit is a masterclass on how far a strong color selection and simplicity can take you. I haven’t seen a full suit in this color yet, and it’s perfect for the holiday season.
7. Mikhail Sergachev

Let's get down to business.
— Tampa Bay Lightning (@TBLightning) December 16, 2021
There’s a lot of power in knowing what your color is. That’s blue for Mikhail Sergachev (on the bottom right above), and we love a little powder blue moment in an extra-fancy suit jacket.

Tasteful pink? In this economy!? I love the color combination going on here, and that he didn’t overdo the pink with a pink tie.
5. Pierre-Edouard Bellemare

Bottom right here:
Can we get a little commotion for the suits?

Fourth photo here:
Pierre-Edouard Bellemare has been bringing the deep, solid tones these days and it’s been fantastic. I absolutely love green as opposed to red ahead of Christmas, and I always felt like red gets too much attention and credit this time of year.
4. Vincent Trocheck

Which Troch fit is your favorite?
— Carolina Hurricanes (@Canes) December 21, 2021
Vincent Trocheck has always had pretty nice style, but he was not messing around in December. All clean-as-heck looks, topped off with a cowboy hat. For context, the Hurricanes have been playing with, like, half their regular roster, so “yee haw” has meant a little more for them these days.
3. Jansen Harkins
Previously: Unranked
That’s his grandpa’s coat from the 1970’s. He’d be proud it made the fashion reel!
— Kirsten Harkins (@kirstenharkins) December 15, 2021
So according to Jansen Harkins’ mom, Kristen, this coat is actually his grandpa’s from the 70s. I love everything about this: That Harkins still has the jacket, that he decided to wear it and, of course, the jacket itself.
2. Kasperi Kapanen

Five wins in a row.
Five goals last game.

Finally, the Penguins gave us a crumb of Kasperi Kapanen content, and it did not disappoint.

Kapanen has been known around the league for his fashion sense for a while now. The cream/brown combination here and the fit of the suit are fantastic.
Please give us more Kapanen!
1.Trevor Zegras
Previously: Unranked
There’s something to be said about how someone follows up a big moment in their life.
The entire hockey world’s eyes were on Zegras after he did his — what are we calling it? — lacrosse-style pass? Sportsnet analyst Justin Bourne referred to it as “the Dishigan.”

— NHL (@NHL) December 8, 2021
That was Dec. 8. Since then, he’s been absolutely nailing the West Coast fashion — but a brief scan shows he’s been doing that for a while. What’s even more impressive is there aren’t many super young guys who tend to crack these rankings; fashion is often an acquired taste after NHL players get that big paycheck. Zegras, 20, seems born for the big moments.

And as overdone as these Star Wars nights are, Zegras sort of made it fun again with a Baby Yoda in tote.
