Paula Abdul's infamous song, “Opposites Attract” had couples coming together. Whether you enjoy the movies and he likes TV or you’re the light-hearted chica to his serious demeanor, the song celebrates differences between couples.

But, do opposites really attract or are couples with similarities a better fit?

According to a recent study, Abdul had it all wrong! After analyzing romantic couples and friendships and comparing core values and character traits, researchers discovered that a relationship has a higher likelihood of success when individuals share similarities.

It makes sense. Once the initial lust and ardor of a new love affair diminishes, the day-to-day of a relationship kicks in. In order for us to feel comfortable with our partner, we must trust him or her, cooperate and, yes, have things in common with our love.

So, in the end, choose a like-minded partner as similarities are key to developing a successful relationship that lasts.
