Panthers' Bryce Young: Last Season 'Not Something That Holds Sway' Entering 2024 | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors
Carter Sullivan Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young is putting his rookie season in the rearview mirror ahead of his second year in the NFL.
"Whatever happened the past year — the good, the bad, whatever," Young said, via Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. "It's not something that I can control. It's not something that holds sway over what we're doing anymore."
The 22-year-old is coming off a tumultuous inaugural season, finishing with a record of 2-14 as a starter while former head coach Frank Reich was fired after Week 12.
Young completed 59.8 percent of his throws for 2,877 yards as a rookie, recording 11 touchdown passes compared to 10 interceptions. The No. 1 pick in the 2023 draft was also sacked 62 times, the second-highest mark in the league.

The Panthers eventually found their replacement head coach in the offseason, hiring former Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Dave Canales. Carolina also brought in Brad Idzik as the team's new offensive coordinator, with Idzik previously spending time with Canales on the Buccaneers as well as the Seattle Seahawks.
Young admitted that the familiarity between the new coaching staff has made communication with the players much easier.
"All those guys being in the room and having coached together, having a background and them being on the same page, for myself, for everyone in the offense, us knowing that we can speak the same language in all the talks we have," he said, per CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones.
This appears to be a stark contrast to the previous regime, as ESPN's David Newton reported in May that Reich and former offensive coordinator Thomas Brown "had different philosophies."
As Young puts his rookie season behind him, he may be in store for an improved sophomore campaign with a coaching staff that's on the same page.
