The fire department said no one was hurt.

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Students and staff were evacuated from a Gwinnett County high school after a fire was ignited inside of a bathroom on Tuesday, according to officials.

Gwinnett County Fire Department crews were called to Parkview High School on Tuesday around 2 p.m., Cpt. Brian Gaeth said. He added that school resource officers jumped into action and assisted with GCFD's response.

"There were kids in the building but the alarms triggered and everybody reacted appropriately, all of the students and staff got out," Gaeth said.

A district spokesperson said smoke was reported in a bathroom in Building C and students and staff were promptly evacuated. 

The fire at the school has since been extinguished with firefighters working to address the smoke that filled the nearby hallway, a news release from GCFD said.

"Once the situation was isolated, everybody was led back into the other side of the school to get their stuff," Gaeth said, adding that students were released a bit after the usual school dismissal time due to the incident.

No one was hurt during the fire or evacuations, authorities said.

"This situation occurred just before dismissal time. The school has received the all-clear from the fire department to return to the building (except for Building C) and has begun dismissal. That said, buses will be running a little later than usual," the district spokesperson said in a statement.

The fire department has not released any further details, nor have they indicated the cause of the fire at this time. Gaeth said school resource officers will actively investigate what started the fire.
