Renato Sanches heads to Roma on loan
Ava Arnold Nottingham Forest are looking to make a second signing of the summer from Arsenal, as they target left-back Nuno Tavares.
Forest are hoping to agree a deal to sign the Portuguese defender on a permanent basis, to bring him to the City Ground and reunite him with former team-mate Matt Turner.
Steve Cooper is keen to see the club add to their options on the left side and in the centre of defence, as well as in the centre of midfield.
Tavares, 23, is a former Portugal under-21 international and came through the ranks at Benfica, before signing for Arsenal in the summer of 2021.
He has made 17 starts and 11 substitute appearances for Arsenal in all competitions, scoring one goal.
Tavares picked up valuable experience in Ligue 1 during a loan spell at Marseille last season, where he made 29 starts and eight sub appearances in all competitions. He also demonstrated more attacking threat in France, where he scored six goals.
Tavares was part of the Portugal under-21 side that was beaten 1-0 by an England team that featured Morgan Gibbs-White in the European Championships earlier in the summer.
Summer signing Ola Aina, who arrived as a free agent from Torino, made a positive impact on his debut for Forest at Arsenal last weekend, playing on the left side of defence — but he is a natural right-footer.
Omar Richards continues to struggle with his recovery from injury, more than a year on from initially joining Forest from Bayern Munich with a fractured lower leg. Harry Toffolo is facing allegations that he breached betting rules and could face a ban as a result, if found guilty.
