This includes Florida falling to Colorado on a game-winning jumper with less than two seconds remaining in the second half on Friday as well as Kentucky's shocking defeat against No. 14 seed Oakland on Thursday night.
When discussing a potential expanded tournament, SEC commissioner Greg Sankey previously told Kyle Tucker of The Athletic that he wasn't a fan of schools from smaller leagues automatically qualifying.
"We are giving away highly competitive opportunities for automatic qualifiers (from smaller leagues), and I think that pressure is going to rise as we have more competitive basketball leagues at the top end because of (conference) expansion," Sankey said.
Yale, the team that defeated Auburn on Friday, earned a spot in the tournament due to automatically qualifying by winning the Ivy League tournament. Fans made sure to point out the conference's surprising lack of success since the start of the tournament.

Tom Fornelli @TomFornelliThe SEC is now 1-5 in the tournament (Alabama and A&M still to play) with losses to Oakland and Yale. No wonder Greg Sankey wants to get all these small schools out of the dance.
Tennessee was the only SEC school to earn a victory and advance to the second round, while Alabama and Texas A&M still have first-round matchups remaining on Friday.
