Good news for residents of the great state of Texas, as a few days ago Governor Greg Abbott announced an emergency extension of SNAP benefits for December for more than $341.4 million.

These allocations are expected to be able to help an estimated 1.6 million households in need in the Texas state.

"Thanks to the SNAP benefits provided by HHSC, Texans across the state continue to have access to nutritious food," said Governor Abbott. "By extending SNAP benefits for the month of December, we are ensuring that all families can stay healthy and take care of their loved ones this holiday season."

When will SNAP Texas payments be made in December?

Based on the last two digits of the EDG number, households receive their monthly benefits on a staggered basis from the 1st through the 28th of the month.

• If the last digits end in 00-03, the payment will be paid on the 1st of the month.
• If the last digits end in 04-06, the payment will be 2.
• If the last digits end in 07-10, the payment will be 3
• If the last digits end in 11-13, the payment will be 4
• If the last digits end in 14-17, the payment will be 5
• If the last digits end in 18-20, the payment will be 6
• If the last digits end in 21-24, the payment will be 7
• If the last digits end in 25-27, the payout will be 8
• If the last digits end in 28-31, the payout will be 9
• If the last digits end in 32-34, the payout will be 10
• If the last digits end in 35-38, the payoff will be 11
• If the last digits end in 39-41, the payment will be 12
• If the last digits end in 42-45, the payment will be on the 13th.
• If the last digits end in 46-49, payment will be due on the 14th.
• If the last digits end in 50-53, payment will be due on 15
• If the last digits end with 54-57, the payment will be 16
• If the last digits end in 58-60, the payout will be 17
• If the last digits end in 61-64, the payment will be 18
• If the last digits end in 65-67, the payment will be 19
• If the last digits end in 68-71, the payment will be 20
• If the last digits end in 72-74, the payout will be 21
• If the last digits end in 75-78, the payout will be 22
• If the last digits end in 79-81, the payout will be 23
• If the last digits end in 82-85, the payout will be 24
• If the last digits end in 86-88, the payout will be 25
• If the last digits end in 89-92, the payment will be on the 26th.
• If the last digits end in 93-95, the payment will be on the 27th.
• If the last digits end in 96-99, the payment will be 28th.

If the household's benefits are prorated at the time of application, the prorated benefit amount and the next monthly allotment may be issued as a deposit to the household's EBT account.

SNAP households certified prior to May 1, 2023 maintain their existing issuance schedule based on the date benefits were initially certified, unless there is a break in benefits of at least six months and the household reapplies after May 1, 2023.
