Jessica Wood Street Outlaws has been airing on the Discovery Channel since 2013 and over the years, many street racers have appeared on the show. Big Chief, Monza, Jeff Lutz and many more racers have been cast members on Street Outlaws for many seasons.
Given the nature of the sport of street racing, the cast can often get themselves into some dangerous situations. JJ Da Boss and Tricia were in a car wreck in 2022. However, the pair are making a recovery. Some more devastating news has hit Street Outlaws fans in 2022 as Wayne Smozanek passed away in February.
Who was Wayne from Street Outlaws?
Street Outlaws star Wayne Smozanek was a fan favourite on the show and had a passion for monster trucks, he created the original Tropical Thunder truck. As per Wayne’s website, his race car, El Camino, was featured in Truckin Magazine.
He hailed from Jupiter, Florida and he and his wife, Wendy, appeared on the Discovery Channel show.
Wayne had been the owner of Performance Center Auto Repair in Florida since 1988.
What happened to Wayne Smozanek?
In a Facebook post from February 8th, 2022, Wayne’s wife, Wendy, wrote that he was battling an illness in hospital: “Wayne is still very sick and Covid is a very unpredictable disease and the outcome for Wayne is still unknown.”
On January 31st, 2022, Wendy wrote that her husband had been “in the ICU for 6 weeks today” so he had been in hospital for a long time before his passing.
February 14th saw Wendy take to Facebook to say that her husband had passed away. She wrote: “He is already missed.. and I promise his legacy will live on.. I will post the funeral arrangements soon!“.
Many of Wayne’s friends, family and fans took to Facebook to share their condolences at the news of his passing.
How old was Wayne when he died?
Wayne Smozanek passed away at just 60 years old.
As per Wendy’s Instagram page (@wendysmozanek), he celebrated his last birthday on July 14th, 2021.
Wayne leaves behind his wife and their son Will Race Smozanek, however, as Wendy promised: “…his legacy will live on”.
