Sundy Whiteside St. Louis Mourns the Loss of SLACO Board President
Sarah Rodriguez St. Louis, Missouri is mourning the loss of one of its most dedicated community advocates. Sundy Whiteside, esteemed Board President of the St. Louis Association of Community Organizations (SLACO), has passed away.
A Cheerleader for St. Louis
Mayor Tishaura O. Jones described Whiteside as “one of its biggest cheerleaders”. Her tireless work towards neighborhood organization and community building highlighted her passion for the city she called home.
Advocate for Vacancy Issues
Whiteside was known for being an active resident of the Walnut Park East Neighborhood, which is plagued with approximately 750 vacant properties. She was instrumental in addressing the vacancy issues and was delighted to be part of the solution in St. Louis.
A Pillar in Community Organizations
As the Board President of SLACO, Whiteside’s contribution to the community was immeasurable. She was a co-founder of the St. Louis Vacancy Collaborative and served as the Co-Chair, demonstrating her dedication to tackling the city’s vacancy issues head on.
Whiteside’s leadership extended beyond her role at SLACO. She held a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Missouri University of Science & Technology, proving her diverse range of skills and knowledge.
Recognition for Community Planning
In 2019, Whiteside accepted the Community Planning Champion Award from the American Planning Association’s St. Louis Metro Chapter on behalf of SLACO. This underlined her commitment to the betterment of St. Louis communities.
