Cervinia boasts a good choice of independent restaurants, sustained by the comparatively high numbers of self-caterers and guests on B&B board. There are also plenty of hotels that open their often excellent dining rooms to non-residents. 

For affordable eating on the slopes, it’s best to stick to eateries on the Italian slopes rather than venturing towards the pricier venues on the Zermatt side. The quality is as good, and the price difference is significant.

Lo Copa Pan

This restaurant has long been a mainstay of the resort, and is in a good position in the town centre. The menu at Lo Copa Pan includes tasty pizza, homemade pasta, fondue, and steak. Upstairs is a lively bar hosting live bands.

La Chandelle

Located in Hotel Hermitage La Chandelle offers international cuisine made with fresh ingredients and served in a stylish dining room with lovely views of the surrounding larch forest. Mocetta salami with goat’s cheese and chestnuts is a highlight, along with venison fillet with pumpkin gratin, and for dessert creamy chocolate pudding, mandarin parfait and meringue cake. There's an extensive wine list – and an olive oil menu featuring more than 20 oils from around Italy.

Wood is an amazing restaurant, which blends Swedish, Italian and Asian cuisine into a delightful combo, served in surroundings decorated by wood from the local Val d’Aosta. They serve three different tasting menus plus à la carte featuring pork belly with hoisin sauce, smoked reindeer with lingonberries and spaghetti with black garlic and morel mushrooms.

On the mountain

Baita Cretaz

On the lower slopes at 2,000m and open for dinner (they take you up and down by snowmobile, which takes less than a minute) as well as lunch, Baita Cretaz is a delightful, rustic and friendly restaurant. There’s excellent pastas, risottos, fondues, air dried meats, plus  sushi, sashimi and other Japanese treats on offer.

Lo Baracon dou Téne

In a small stone hut slightly off the beaten track in the Valtournenche area, Lo Baracon dou Téne's prices are generally lower than on the main Cervinia slopes – and much lower than in Zermatt. The menu includes a daily pasta special, and the south-facing terrace has lovely views.

A piste-side restaurant on the main Cervinia slopes, Bontadini is a popular place with a table service restaurant downstairs serving tasty local specialities such as Valdostana cheese fondue, homemade truffle ravioli and chamois with polenta. The restaurant upstairs is self-service.

Chalet Etoile

Cervinia's best-known mountain eatery is undoubtedly Chalet Etoile, which first opened in 1974 and is run by the Frassy family. The food is sophisticated and fabulous – dishes include lobster spaghetti – and the puddings are especially recommended. It's essential to book in advance.

On run 7 at 2,400m, L'Igloo is delightfully set right by the piste and with stunning views, including the Matterhorn/Monte Cervino from the terrace. Cosy interior with a wood burning stove and wooden walls, ceiling, and floor hosts a menu famed for its grilled meats – it also has delicious pastas including pappardelle with venison ragù.

Rifugio Teodulo

Spectacularly set at 3,317m on the pass between Italy and Switzerland, Rifugio Teodulo is owned by the Italian Alpine Club and the current building was built in the 1920s before being renovated and expanded between 2000 and 2010. The restaurant has panoramic views of the Matterhorn/Monte Cervino and simple soups, pasta dishes and desserts (plus excellent grappa).
