Carter Sullivan Fixer Upper fans may be wondering if HGTV clients get to keep the fabulous furniture shown at the end of the episode. Cue the transformations: it’s all just for the show unfortunately.
Chip and Joanna Gaines are there as a helping hand (or four) as hopeful homeowners rebuild fallen structures and transform them into luxurious places to live. Not. Jealous. At. All.
At the end of each episode, we see basically what looks like a totally different property. The question on most viewers’ minds though, is what happens to all of that furniture at the end…
Fixer Upper: Does the furniture stay?
No, the furniture seen on the Magnolia Network show does not stay in the home. When staging the property, Chip and Joanna tend to use their own – or the client’s – personal items for the big transformation.
The clients are asked to pay for the furniture, if they wish to keep any items, or return them after filming wraps up. This includes absolutely everything, from huge living room chairs to smaller trinkets used for kitchen decor.
Joanna sometimes gifts the homeowners a piece or two from the staging. This is usually a refurbished item or a personal touch specific to the clients, but it’s not guaranteed to happen.

What really happens to the furniture?
The production team are given the furniture back, or sometimes stays if the client wishes to pay for it. And don’t worry, if you ever go on the show, you usually get given something to keep.
Although the homeowners are responsible for paying for their own demolition, the network does cover the cost of one piece of decor, such as a dining room table.
Clients also have no requirements to pay Chip and Joanna for their design services, as the production team covers the talent fee. So the furniture is likely kept in storage to be used for future renovation episodes.
So Chip and Joanna are looking back at their #fixerupper episodes. She said in the flashbacks that they staged the homes by borrowing/bartering from friends, but in the actual episode, she makes it seem like they bought the furniture from estate sales. Everything is a lie! #HGTV
