Kengo Oishi, governor of Nagasaki, skipped an important meeting between leaders from all over the country to attend the friendly match between Al Nassr and PSG in Osaka on July 25.
Oishi explained that the ticket money came out of his own pocket, but the travel and accommodation was paid for by the Japanese city government.
The politician apologized that he took advantage of the event to invite the Portuguese to take part in future publicity for Nagasaki, although some officials claim that there had been no response from the Portuguese star for this sort of publicity deal.
Demands for his resignation
Some are calling for his resignation for not doing his job and for not properly performing his duties as a public official.
They argue that he prioritized his own interests and attended a recreational event rather than an official meeting.
On the other side, his supporters suggest that this request for publicity would be very beneficial to the city and that he was doing important work for his city.
