Burton realized that “I was Dumbo, that I was working in this awful enormous circus and I needed to flee” while filming “Dumbo” for the studio.

After collecting the Prix Lumière, Burton spoke at the Lumière Festival in Lyon and disclosed that the 2019 movie probably marked the end of his long-standing creative partnership with Disney. 

Burton thinks that because of how the industry has changed, it is no longer advantageous for him to work with the industry titan.

He said that after working on “Dumbo,” he realized that Disney had grown to be too enormous.
