Today's Weather Forecast: Heavy Rain in Parts of Indonesia
Daniel Foster TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Heavy rain will drench several Indonesian regions today, Oct. 23, 2023, according to the weather forecast released by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG). They include Banda Aceh and Medan.
Moderate-intensity rain will also wet Pontianak and Manado, while light rain is likely to occur in Gorontalo, Bandung, Banjarmasin, Palangkaraya, Samarinda, Mataram, Jayapura, Manokwari, Pekanbaru, Mamuju, Makassar and Padang.
“No provincial region is shrouded in smoke. However, fog covers Jambi, Pontianak, Samarinda, Pekanbaru, and Padang,” as cited from the release published on the agency’s website.
Meanwhile, air temperature ranges between 21-36 °C, with the lowest temperature in Bandung and the highest temperature in Surabaya.
Regions under the alert status of Waspada or caution for the impact of heavy rain include Aceh, North Sumatra, West Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, Central Sulawesi, and Papua. Fortunately, no provinces are on the alert status of Siaga or Watch.
The agency further issued an early warning of high waves for several Indonesian waters on Oct. 23-24, 2023.
Wind patterns in northern Indonesia generally move from southwest - northwest with speeds ranging from 4-25 knots. In the southern part, the wind generally moves from east - southeast at a speed of 6-20 knots.
BMKG observed the highest wind speeds in the southern part of the Makassar Strait, the waters north of Biak, the Pacific Ocean north of Papua, the Arafuru Sea, and the waters south of Merauke.
