Tyson Fury: Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul Is 'Pretty Even' Matchup, 'Fantastic' for Boxing | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors
Andrew Mccoy WBC boxing heavyweight champion Tyson Fury believes the upcoming exhibition matchup between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul is "fantastic for boxing."
"You've got a legend in Mike Tyson. You've got a YouTube boxer who has come into the game and blew it up and he's got millions of followers and millions of views and millions of eyes," Fury told Charlie Parsons for Wow Hydrate (h/t Most Valuable Promotions). "Good, bad or indifferent. Some people love him, some people hate him."
Fury also noted Paul's rise from social media star to professional boxer, asking why wouldn't someone in his position want to fight Tyson if given the chance.
Paul will get that shot now, facing an ex-heavyweight champion 30 years his senior in the 57-year-old Tyson.
Compared to Tyson, Paul has very little boxing experience, going 9-1 in his career with six knockouts. Tyson, meanwhile, went 50-6 with two no-contests and was the sport's heavyweight champion for over three years. However, age is a factor here, and his last professional fight took place in 2005.
Ultimately, this will be a spectacle one way or the other, and Fury has expressed his admiration for both.
"You gotta admire them both and I wish them both the best of luck," Fury added.
Tyson and Paul will fight July 20 at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys.
