Homicide detectives are now investigating the shooting.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Police are still investigating a shooting on July 1, where they found one man dead in DeKalb County; they have one person of interest. 

DeKalb County Police Department said they got a call around 10:34 p.m. that a person was shot near 1055 Holcombe Road. That's the Avondale Townhomes. 

Quakari Freeman was found dead under a white sheet near building 1029, with gunshot wounds in the back, according to the department. Two 9mm shell casings were found in the grass near the apartment. 

Officers said a woman who identified herself as Freeman's girlfriend was near and crying. She didn't want to talk with law enforcement. 

About 20 minutes later, another man showed up and said he was Freeman's cousin. He was able to show officers a photo of Freeman and said they lived together. 

Freeman's girlfriend told officers who she believed was responsible for killing him and gave them their address. 

Police said they were able to find the suspect and took him and Freeman's girlfriend back to headquarters to investigate further.
