Personal Statement

My name is Vincent Terry.  I am from Beesleys Point, NJ. and I attend Ocean City High School in Ocean City, NJ.  In my four years of high school baseball, I have earned four varsity letters.  I was a member of a state finalist team in my freshman year, 2010. I earned the starting catching position as a sophomore in 2011 and was honorable mention all conference. As the starting catcher and a team captain, in 2012, I helped lead the team to the South Jersey Group 3 championship game and was voted honorable mention all conference. In 2013 I was once again a team captain and the starting catcher where I helped lead my team to the South Jersey Group 3 championship game for the third time in four years.  I was voted First Team All-Conference and a Second Team Press of Atlantic City All-Star.  I am a member of The National Honor Society and have a maintained a 4.00 GPA, while taking several honors and AP classes.

I believe my most important athletic features are my head and my heart.  I give 100%, 100% of the time, and always want to know how I can elevate my game.  I am also very coachable and a leader on and off of the field.  These attributes, as well as academic success, have always been stressed by my coaches.  My dream to compete at the collegiate level has always pushed me to work hard athletically and academically.

I hope to attend a college/university in the Northeast and as far south as North Carolina.  I love the area where I am from and would prefer not to be too far from it. I want to be comfortable at the school that I will call home for the years that I attend.  Academics and athletics are equally important to me.  I want to attend the best academic school and still play baseball.  The school I am looking for is one that has a balance between academics and athletics, yet still values academics as the priority.  I would like to major in exercise and sports science.

I want to be able to contribute to a team as soon as possible, however, I do not want this to have total influence over the school I attend.  I have the desire to play at the highest level my ability allows, where I can be a big part of the team and the school that I attend.
