Since last weekend when the men of the Wagner group marched on Moscow and rebelled against the Kremlin, there has been much speculation about how the mercenaries get their resources and what happens when one of them falls in combat.

Now, media reports have revealed how much these soldiers are paid and how much they pay their families if one of them is killed.

"Between May 2022 and May 2023 the state allocated 86 billion roubles (about one billion euros) for the maintenance of the Wagner Group," Vladimir Putin himself confirmed.

On this basis, the secret services of Western countries speculate that a Wagner mercenary's salary of around 3,000 euros is paid in money and gold.

What happens to the families of the Wagner group

It is not the same payment, however, that Prigozhin offers to those he recruited in prisons until recently. For the latter, he gave a figure of around 2,200 euros and an employment contract of around six months. These are salaries far above the average Russian soldier, whose allowance ranges from 70,000 to 100,000 thousand roubles (750-1,075 euros).

As for the mercenaries' families in case of loss, Wagner pays them five million roubles, which is equivalent to just under 55,000 euros. Proof that Prigozhin and his men are covered in any scenario.

For now, those belonging to the Wagner group have two options, as Putin himself indicated in his last statement to the Russian nation. On the one hand, they can join the ranks of the home army or, on the other hand, they can leave for Belarus. All this after assuring that those responsible for the rebellion would pay the consequences and be "brought to justice".
