Who is Nancy Shevell? How Did She Manage To Become The Newest Lady McCartney?
Carter Sullivan It is unlikely anybody would ever forget the Beatles, and it is even less likely the name Paul McCartney will be forgotten any time soon.
Even now, at the age of 79, McCartney is still a massive name in the music scene. Last year, he released his latest solo album, McCartney III, and has just released a best-selling book entitled The Lyrics: 1965 to the Present.
The former band is currently making headlines due to the release of Peter Jackson’s long-awaited documentary series, The Beatles: Get Back, released in November this year.
The Beatles Paul McCartney has had his fair share of high-profile relationships since the Beatlemania days.
Of these, his three marriages are the most talked about.
Following the loss of his first wife to breast cancer in 1998, and his highly publicized divorce that was finalized in 2008, McCartney managed to find love a final time.
In 2011, he married Nancy Shevell, a New York native.
McCartney has always remained relatively quiet about his personal life, avoiding questions about his children and grandchildren in interviews over the years.
Following his infamous divorce, he and Shevell prefer to keep their married life away from the public.
This hasn’t stopped people from wanting to know all they can about the star’s wife, however,
Who Is Nancy Shevell?
Shevell was born in New York City in November 1959 and is the daughter of Myron “Mike” Shevell, the current Chairman and CEO of The Shevell Group.
Her father was a trucking industry executive who struck gold when he purchased New England Motor Freight in 1977, which he folded into his own company.
As a child, Shevell was fascinated by her father’s industry and often joined him at his work in trucking terminals. She received a degree in transportation from Arizona State University and joined the family business. She was the only female in the department’s graduating class that year.
Shevell joined the Shevell group of companies in 1983, quickly rising through the ranks to become vice president.
She even served on the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s board from 2011 to 2011.
Celebrity Net Worth claims that her estimated net worth amounts to around $200 million.
Like McCartney, Shevell had also been through a divorce, although hers was kept relatively private for the sake of her son.
In college, she met Bruce Blakeman, a lawyer-turned-Long Island politician. The two were married for 23 years, with their divorce being finalized in December 2008.
How Did They Meet?
Shevell and McCartney had allegedly met nearly twenty years prior to their relationship since they both had houses in the Hamptons.
Sparks officially flew during the period in which they were separated from their respective former spouse.
Legendary news anchor Barbra Walters (coincidentally Shevell’s second cousin) can be considered the couple’s official matchmaker.
A source told The Observer: “Barbara was [Shevell’s] emotional confidante and played matchmaker […] She gave numerous dinner parties for them and always made sure to invite people she knew that Paul would want to meet.”
The source also revealed that Walters went so far as to coach Shevell on how to conduct herself around McCartney in order to beat out the other aspirants for his eye.
The couple did not make their relationship until Shevell’s divorce from Blakeman was finalized.
Paparazzi had noticed them out and about before the relationship was announced, prompting them to reveal the truth faster than they may have wanted to.
Details About The Wedding
McCartney and Shevel married in 2011. He gave her a 1925 Cartier solitaire diamond ring, and the two tied the knot in October 2011 at Old Marleybone Town Hall in London.
The venue was also where McCartney married his late first wife, Linda Eastman, in 1969.
The couple opted to keep the ceremony quiet, only inviting a few friends (including McCartney’s former bandmate Ringo Starr) and, of course, Barbara Walters.
Life After The Wedding
Shevell had been quoted as expressing her desire to continue to live in New York City but was anticipating the move to the U.K. after her wedding.
Some say the fairytale ends here. McCartney, who is famously stingy with his fortune, preferred the couple live in his 1,500-acre estate in Sussex.
A source close to the couple even revealed that Shevell would purchase her own plane tickets whenever she visited McCartney in London during their courtship.
The isolated estate may not be a palace, but it is perfect for the low-key couple and their extended family.
As far as public attention goes, Shevell was warned early on that her every move would be traced. Helen Kirwan-Taylor, a London-based American journalist, wrote that “confident, independent women who come over here with money will not have many friends,” – especially not those who moved from New York to London.
At the height of the media frenzy, Shevell told The Observer: “It’s just not that intriguing. Not like his last marriage, which was really intriguing. I’m over 50. I work. That’s it. I haven’t been social and I have a small group of girlfriends. There really isn’t much to talk about.”
After twisting and shouting his way through the 60s and 70s, it is no surprise McCartney still has fun on a night out.
In his new book, McCartney details how his dancing abilities have been the secret to his marriage, noting that he knew she was a keeper when she could keep up with his signature moves.
He writes: “After a show, when the band and crew get together for a drink, we’re always the first ones on the dancefloor. Certain songs will just get you dancing.”
His children have always supported his romantic endeavors, particularly after Easton’s death.
On being asked what it’s like to be the daughter of famous parents, their daughter, Stella (now a world-famous fashion designer), remarked: “It sounds silly, but I didn’t have a huge amount of money as a kid,” she revealed in a profile in Porter. “My mum and dad were really clever; I went to a comprehensive [school] and I wasn’t given a load of cash, so I would go to vintage and secondhand shops and markets to buy clothes.”
With six children and multiple grandchildren between them, it seems as though McCartney and Shelley are content with their quiet life together.
