Who won ITV2 series Survival Of The Fittest? The boys or girls? Mon 5 March 2018 16:00 Updated Thu 12 April 2018 12:37 Liam Curtis
Carter Sullivan Attempting to follow ITV2 series Survival Of The Fittest proved pretty damn disastrous for many viewers.
The brand new reality TV series was dubbed by its producers as the U.K’s winter alternative to Love Island, although the ratings didn’t exactly match that description.
With contestants leaving the Survival Of The Fittest lodge daily, confusion about the show and who was going to win lasted from day one on February 11, all the way to the weekend just gone.
Fortunately, after 20 days of physical challenges and a winner was finally crowned – well, four winners.
Four Girls Are Crowned Winners
Throughout the series and we have seen a team of six girls competing against six males. However, in the final week and these two teams were stripped down to four.
The male team featured David Lundy, Warren Phillips, Callum Pardoe and James Middleton.
The female team consisted of Mariam Musa, Mettisse Campbell, Jenny West and Sam Dewhurst.
Although we were never really sure whether the winner was going to be an individual or a team, the four girls were crowned the winners after defeating the blokes in a final physical challenge.
Twist With The Prize Money
The result meant that the £40,000 prize money would go to the girls . . . or, so they thought.
In one final twist, it was announced that Mettisse was voted the ‘Fittest Girl’, meaning she was given the choice to continue splitting the prize money with her fellow female team-mates or split the sum with boyfriend Tristan.
Ooh, the tension.
Despite the opportunity presenting itself to finally make the ITV2 series interesting, Mettisse stuck with her guns and split the money with her female posse.
She said: “Being named the fittest girl is obviously an amazing title and I feel very privileged to be given that.
“But I couldn’t have done it without my girls and we’re all winners in my eyes. I would expect the guys to choose the same at the end of the day it is a competition its girls versus boys and that’s what we went in there for.”
Twitter Reacts
All four girls left the South African savanna £10,000 richer but Twitter felt the prize money was a bit of a joke, especially considering Love Island 2017 contestants Kem Cetinay and Amber Davies walked away with £50,000 between them.
Warren: "winning this would be life changing…I can buy myself a house"

There was also confusion over the legitimacy of the final episode twist, with viewers pointing out that if Jenny won then she wouldn’t have had the option of splitting the prize money with a boyfriend.
I don’t buy this “twist” at the end of #SurvivalOfTheFittest of having to split the prize money between mates or dates. What if Jenny or Sam would have been voted the fittest? I’d argue that Jenny was more deserving too… 🤔

The Survival Of The Fittest ratings had dropped from 0.59 million in the first-week to 0.30 million in the penultimate week, a far cry from Love Island 2017’s final that raked-in 2.43 million viewers.
