Winchester Mansions Hotel Review, Cape Town
Jessica Wood There is a very generous breakfast buffet (fresh fruit, cereals, yogurts, pastries, cold meats and cheeses), augmented with an à la carte menu featuring the usual suspects – from smashed avocado with chilli salt on toast to eggs Benedict – served indoors or in the courtyard.
Get home in time for sundowners on the Harvey Bar terrace, then be sure to stroll over to Shoreditch for at least one night while you are here – unfussy in appearance, this restaurant serves simple but surprisingly good fare. In the great South African tradition, just about everything is cooked on flame, and from the slightly charred broccoli and edamame, to the superb “Dirty Ribeye”, served with a good chimichurri and crispy leeks, or the lamb kofta, served with sumac onions, a delicious smoky baba ganoush, tzatziki and flatbread, the flavours are deep, the combinations well balanced and the whole experience worth seeking out even if you are not staying here.
