After Sting and Darby Allin beat The Young Bucks at Revolution in Sting's retirement match, the AEW World Tag Team Championships were vacated, and a tournament was held to determine the next titleholders.
Given their status as two of the top tag teams in the world in recent years, it was widely expected that The Young Bucks and FTR would run the table and reach the tournament finals, and they did precisely that.
Matt and Nick Jackson beat Private Party in the quarterfinals and Best Friends in the semifinals to clinch their spot, while Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler took down The Infantry, followed by Top Flight.
With that, it set the stage for The Young Bucks and FTR to reignite perhaps the most significant tag team rivalry in the history of AEW.
The teams previously faced each other in two-on-two tag team matches three times in AEW with The Young Bucks winning at Full Gear 2020, followed by FTR winning on an April 2022 episode of Dynamite and at All In 2023.
During the build toward their title match at Dynasty, The Young Bucks created some controversy by showing footage of a backstage altercation at All In prior to their match against FTR.
The footage showed CM Punk confronting "Jungle Boy" Jack Perry before pushing him and putting Perry in a front face lock. Several wrestlers and backstage personnel broke it up, and it led directly to Punk's firing and eventual return to WWE.
Matt and Nick Jackson claimed that since they are executive vice presidents in AEW, they had to put their focus on the fight rather than on their match with FTR, which is why they lost.
Harwood and Wheeler, who are known to be cost friends with Punk didn't buy the explanation, although showing the footage clearly agitated them.
Getting under FTR's skin seemed to pay dividends, as The Young Bucks won at Dynasty and became the first three-time tag team champions in AEW history.
